About Antique Print Gallery
Maps have always provided a reflection of our ongoing knowledge of the world. As human exploration has expanded, the open spaces on our maps have gradually been filled in. Over the ages, national boundaries have changed while coastal and interior details have become more accurate. The development of a country or region can be traced by studying antique maps.
Similarly, the ability to print pictures has enabled a wider audience to appreciate worldwide cultures both past and present. Over the past three centuries, the sophistication of picture reproduction has increased dramatically. Meticulous engravings on wood, copper and steel have been superseded by modern scanning and printing methods. The skills required to produce the early engravings are no longer required making antique prints particularly valuable and of great historical significance.
The Antique Print Gallery has a large collection of antique prints and maps. A small selection of these appear on this website. Until recently, the gallery was situated on picturesque New Regent Street in Christchurch, New Zealand. We have now closed this gallery and have refurbished our house to accommodate a small private gallery available for viewing by appointment. If you cannot find what you're looking for on the website, please ring or e-mail to discuss your requirements and to arrange a time to visit. Our house is situated in a suburb approximately 5 km from the centre of Christchurch, on a good bus route.
If you are unable to visit our gallery because you are overseas or elsewhere in New Zealand, we can easily ship items for you. We can also mount and frame material although we are not prepared to ship framed items due to the likelihood of glass breakages.
